CONTEMPORARY UNITED STATES HISTORY

Course Rationale: "He who only knows his own generation remains always a child."  Understanding the past helps students prepare for adulthood.  Just as memory is important to each individual, history is important to a nation.  A vital element of civilization is lost when society ignores its past and lives only in the present.  "History can tell us how far we have come as a nation - and how far we have yet to go."  Thus, American history is an important component in the educating of students for a successful journey into American democratic life.
