Get the Lead Out Drinking Water Act

Get the Lead out of School Drinking Water Act

In 2022, the Missouri legislature passed the Get the Lead out of School Drinking Water Act (RsMo 160.077), which sets standards for lead concentrations in school drinking water.  The law requires schools to conduct inventory, sampling, remediation, and monitoring at water sources used or potentially used for drinking, food preparation and cooking.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) currently has a lead drinking water standard limit of 15 micrograms per liter (uq/L) of lead in water. This new Missoiuri law requires that Missouri schools achieve a 5 ug/L of lead in drinking water.

South Iron R-1 School will conduct sampling in late December 2023 - January 2024.  Parents and staff will be notified of results within 7 days of results, and results will be posted on here and reported to the Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS).  South Iron R-1 School will be using Tekalb, Inc. to conduct water testing.
