Students use a variety of websites, applications, browser-based tools, and other digital resources as part of classroom instruction. Some tools require students to have an individual account, while others may be accessed without creating an account.
The District is committed to protecting student privacy and providing a safe online learning environment. Educational technology is reviewed and used in accordance with applicable federal and state laws, including the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
The District uses educational applications and online services provided by third-party companies, including Google Workspace for Education and other instructional resources included on the District’s Approved Technology List.
When an account is required, the District may provide limited student information necessary to create or manage the account and provide the educational service. Depending on the application, this information may include:
Student name
District username
District email address
Grade level or class information
Other information necessary for the educational use of the service
Whenever possible, the District limits the student information shared with third-party services to what is necessary for educational purposes.
COPPA provides special protections for the online collection of personal information from children under age 13. In the educational setting, schools may provide consent on behalf of parents when an online service collects students' personal information for the use and benefit of the school and for no other commercial purpose.
The District reviews educational technology before approving it for student use. Teachers and staff are expected to use District-approved resources in accordance with District policies and applicable privacy requirements.
Parents and guardians may review the District's Approved Technology List to see the websites, applications, and digital services approved for student use. The list also provides available privacy information for these services.
